International Participative public art project with participants in Ireland and Germany.
In collaboration with young people in Co Mayo and Hochstadt Bavaria Germany.
Commissioned by: Hochstadt Municipal Council, Bavaria, Germany.
Current Project Due in 2025
The concept for this sculpture is to create a 5 metre tall sculptural form made from mirror polished stainless steel. It would be a unique and beautiful structure that would draw attention in the park in Hochstadt. The swirling steel form would attract the visitors attention with an embedded sound element. The sculpture would create a landmark in the park making it more unique by providing a creative space to engage the imagination.
The idea for the sculpture explores the partnership of Hochstadt and Castlebar in a unique way. It embodies themes of Peace with the voices of young people in Hochstadt and Castlebar with a recorded sound element. The theme of peace is a particularly important for Europe. Now more than ever with the current crisis in the Ukraine, the voice of young people writing and sharing their thoughts and ideas about Peace is an important and invaluable initiative. This sculpture would celebrate the twinning of Höchstadt and Castlebar and bring an important focus to the theme of Peace which is much needed in our world today. The text/words/poetic elements would be created by students of The Realschule Höchstadt and their sister school Davitt College Castlebar. These written creations or ‘Elfchen’ (Poems of 11 words) would be embedded into a sound activated capsule within the sculpture.
The completed sculpture will take pride of place in the’ Park of the Cultural Mile’ in Höchstadt. Student voices from Davitt College Castlebar and sister school Realschule Höchstadt would be heard in the park as people come close to the sound activated sculpture. This sculpture will be a celebration of the Freundschaft (Friendship) and Partnerschaft (Partnership) that has existed between Castlebar and Höchstadt, twin towns since 24th September 2000.This sculpture project is in collaboration with students from Realschule Höchstadt and Davitt College Castlebar, sister schools since 2002.
