The Player is located on the N17 National Route at Ballindine Co Mayo. It is made from mild steel with specialist colour coating. This sculpture is 6 metres high and 4 metres wide at the base weighing several tonnes. It is a cantilevered structure balanced by 5 tonnes of concrete at the base. It was commissioned by Mayo Co Council percent for art scheme in 2003. The sculpture comemmorates the life and work of Mr Martin Donohue who established the Disabled Drivers Association at Ballindine Co Mayo and was also a renowned musician/accordian player and music teacher. This work featured on the Dept of Education honours leaving cert art paper in 2005.
